THE CALL FOR THE 2017 NCI SUMMER COURSES IS NOW CLOSED
On behalf of the Cancer Institute Consortium on Cancer (Cancer Consortium), Health and Social Care Research & Development Division, Public Health Agency (HSC R&D Division), Belfast, and the Health Research Board (HRB), Dublin invite applications for the following summer courses at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Rockville, Maryland, USA:
- Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention and Control (10 July – 4 August 2017): provides specialised instruction on the principles and practice of cancer prevention and control.
- Molecular Prevention (7 - 11 August 2017): provides a strong background in the molecular biology and genetics of cancer and an overview of the basic laboratory approaches applied to cutting-edge research in cancer.
Applicants may apply for one or both courses. Applications are invited from those employed in health and social care, academic and voluntary/not-for-profit sectors, from a wide variety of disciplines (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, allied health professions, life sciences, epidemiology and any other health-related disciplines with an interest in cancer and its prevention). Up to six places per course are available for participants from the island of Ireland. Preference in selection will be given to those applicants with a doctorate degree and/or relevant experience in cancer prevention and control. Applicants will be required to provide a letter of support from their employer.
Funding is available from HSC R&D Division and the HRB towards travel, accommodation and subsistence costs. There is no charge by the NCI for attending these courses. Applicants residing in Northern Ireland should apply to HSC R&D Division and applicants residing in the Republic of Ireland should apply to HRB.

Applicants from Northern Ireland should be supported by an employer’s letter which must be received at the address below no later than 4.00pm on Monday 30 January 2017.
