15 Oct 2018 - GRADE Summary of Findings Workshop

Event Date:

What: GRADE Summary of Findings Workshop

When: Monday 15 October 2018 from 9.00am - 12.00pm

Where: National University of Ireland, Galway

The recently announced Evidence Synthesis Ireland (ESI) and restablished Cochrane Ireland, which begins on 1st Dec 2018 are pleased to offer an early workshop on 'GRADE Summary of Findings Workshop'

The GRADE approach (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) reflects ‘best practice’ to assess the quality/certainty of evidence from reviews of the literature in systematic reviews or in guideline development.

In this workshop, participants will learn to use GRADE to assess the evidence, and interpret and present findings of synthesised evidence in Cochrane systematic reviews of randomised trials of health care interventions. In the workshop, the GRADE criteria to assess the evidence (risk of bias, indirectness, imprecision, inconsistency, publication and others) will be described and and the process to create evidence tables (choosing outcomes and comparisons; grading the evidence; and presenting effects in user-friendly manner).

Participants should be familiar with comparisons, Cochrane risk of bias assessment and understand basics of effect estimates and confidence intervals. Participants will use the GDT software – the new online software for PC and Mac users and should have registered for this prior to attending and bring a laptop with them for the session. Places are limited and a waiting list will be maintained.

Session will be facilitated by Prof. Declan Devane who is Director of Evidence Synthesis Ireland, Scientific Director of the HRB-Trials Methodology Research Network, Director of Cochrane Ireland and Professor of Midwifery at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at NUI Galway. Declan has completed dozens of reviews and is Editor with the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group.
